Golden Globes, Golden Highlights
If you tuned in to the Golden Globes this year, you no doubt noticed several things: A-List actors and other celebs on the guest list, check. Stunning outfits and tearful acceptance speeches, naturally, check. And then, of course, there were the glamorous hues that adorned celebs' manes -- especially the golden tones imparted to the tresses of red-carpet queens like Amy Poehler, Kate Beckinsale and Dakota Johnson. All three are among the clients of Redken Celebrity Colorist Tracey Cunningham, who brought the gold standard to the Golden Globes.
Here, we'll show you how you can re-create Cunningham's shimmering, spotlight-stealing creations. It's time to lighten up!
Amy Poehler
Cunningham applied Redken’s new Blonde Idol Blue Oil Lightening System Oil Booster (coming to Redken salons this March) to achieve a customized lightened shade that adds depth and incorporates the babylights trend, which mimics the sun-kissed tones that hair took on during
childhood. To ensure Amy’s color would shine onstage, Tracey finished with Shades EQ Gloss, an ammonia-free, no-lift formula that acts as a glaze, color refresher and color corrector.
To recreate Amy’s blonde, use the following Redken formula:
Highlight Formula
1 oz. Blonde Idol Blue Oil Lightening System Oil Booster
2 packettes Blonde Idol Customizable Blue Powder Activator
2 oz. 20 vol. Pro-oxide Cream Developer
Glaze Formula
1 oz. 09G Vanilla Cream Shades EQ Gloss
½ oz. 09N Café Au Lait Shades EQ Gloss
½ oz. Crystal Clear Shades EQ Gloss
2 oz. Shades EQ Processing Solution
Kate Beckinsale
To revitalize Kate’s color and achieve ultimate coverage with natural reflects, Cunningham applied Redken Cover Fusion, a low-ammonia, 100% coverage color cream that gives hair a rich blend of copper and gold tones while adding density and fullness. For subtle highlights and added depth
that would further enhance Kate’s updo, Cunningham used Redken’s new Blonde Idol High Lift Conditioning Cream Color from the Professional Haircolor Collection.
To recreate Kate’s rich brunette with subtle highlights, use the following Redken formula:
Base Formula
1 ½ oz. 4NN Cover Fusion
½ oz. 5NGb Cover Fusion
2 oz. 20 vol. Pro-oxide Cream Developer
Highlight Formula
1 oz. Beige (.13) Blonde Idol High Lift Conditioning Cream

2 oz. Crystal Clear Shades EQ Gloss
2 oz. Shades EQ Processing Solution
Dakota Johnson
Cunningham applied Redken Chromatics to fortify Dakota’s hair and create multidimensional color, then applied Flash Lift maximum power lightening powder to the ends to create an ombre effect. For a healthy shine, Tracey finished with Shades EQ Gloss.
To recreate Dakota’s subtle ombre, use the following Redken formula:
Base Formula
1 ½ oz. 5NW (5.03) Chromatics
½ oz. 4Bc (4.54) Chromatics
2 oz. 10 vol. Chromatics Oil in Cream Developer
