Step 1. Apply a volumizing mousse or gel (based on texture) to clean hair and blow dry until completely smooth.

Step 1-1. Divide the hair into 3 sections as shown. For better control/separation, braid each section.

Step 2. Backcomb the right/back section to create a firm base. Leave the lower mid-shafts and ends loose. Repeat this step on the left/back section.

Step 3. Using a cushioned styling brush, smooth the backcombed hair on the right/back side, apply a light amount of firm/flexible hairspray and place it on the top/left side of the head. Clip this section, leaving the lower mid-shafts and ends loose. Repeat this action on the left/back side, this time placing the hair on the right/top side so that the two sections cross.

Step 4. Addressing the front/left section, backcomb the hair and then lightly smooth both sides of the section. Apply a light amount of firm/flexible hairspray and wrap hair around a lightweight hair rat and roll as shown. Secure the hair/rat with hairpins and apply a coating of hairspray.

Step 5. Addressing the front/right section, integrate the loose hair from the back two sections. Tease the hair, lightly smooth both sides and wrap around a second hair rat. Roll the hair in the same manner as you did in Step 4.

Step 6. Use your fingers and a tail comb to blouse and place hair into the finished style. Apply light, multiple applications of a firm/flexible hairspray.
