Fashion Frenzy
Held in conjunction with the Intercoiffure North America Spring Symposium, six Fashion Frenzy finalists arrived in Hollywood, Florida, with hopes, dreams and a whole lot of raw talent.
“CosmoProf Fashion Frenzy was conceived to inspire young talent to realize their potential in the professional-beauty industry,” says Carolyn Corporon, Vice President of Marketing. “From the moment they decide to enter the competition, their horizons expand dramatically. For the finalists, Fashion Frenzy can become the ultimate journey of their beauty school career.”
WINNER’S CIRCLE
All would do their best during the competition, but only one would be declared the winner.
So who took top honors? Jessica Fair, who attends Empire Beauty School in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. From the stage, after learning of her win, Fair exclaimed, “I am so excited…trying not to cry but trying to just hold myself together.
I’m thankful and grateful to CosmoProf for offering me this opportunity.”
Fortunately, the timeworn saying, “Everyone is a winner,” turned out to be true for all Fashion Frenzy finalists. Besides a treasure trove of gifts from sponsors, all six received a full day of mentoring, including how to plan their hair designs and choose their models from the 60 hopefuls who auditioned.
“The Fashion Frenzy competition starts online,” explains Luis Alvarez, VP of Creative for Aquage, who mentored participants, acted as the MC and was a member of the judging panel. “All students had to do to be eligible to compete, was to sign up for a CosmoProf PROCLUB Card (no purchase necessary). They were asked to show their best work on a mannequin head and post front, side and back shots online. Three of the finalists were chosen by CosmoProf judges and three by online voters. The latter proved to be invaluable, because it taught students the importance of marketing and networking. The response was also phenomenal: Fashion Frenzy received hundreds of entries.
“After arriving in Florida, I believe that all the finalists’ careers were positively impacted for life. Beginning with having breakfast with The Doves, they were mentored for an entire day (without forcing their vision) by top talent and, over the course of the event, worked with an amazing videographer, makeup artist and fashion stylist. They watched their show being choreographed and I took them on a field trip to a few of my favorite designer stores to teach them about the accouterments of beauty. On the day of the competition, they prepared their models in the same room—and at the same time—as some of the most renowned hairstylists in the world.
Ultimately, they escorted their models on stage and spoke to an audience of multi-million dollar salons.”
