Joico Symposium Debuts
The Joico and Charles David Salon and Spa "families" came together for a memorable event, recently, when the haircare company and the Boston salon group participated in the first annual Joico Symposium. A group of more than 65 Charles David stylists gathered for this historic, two-day, hands-on event at the Charles David flagship salon in Massachusetts.
Joico International Artistic Director Damien Carney and International Vero K-PAK Color Artistic Director Sue Pemberton led the education, which focused on Joico's signature J-Cutting and J-Coloring techniques. Sue and Damien were supported by Joico Artists Pam Mezinger and David Scott, who conducted the programs for the salons' new associates. According to Charles David co-owner Charles "Buddy" Dudley, the instructors really put the salon staff members through their paces!
"They made everyone feel at ease and let them be creative and artistic," he laughs, "as long as they followed the program!"
Also on hand to celebrate the new collaboration were Joico Senior Vice President and General Manager Sara Jones and Director of Education Angelia Polsinelli. "The opportunity to be the product of choice for one of the top salons in the U.S. is an honor for us," says Jones. "Buddy and David's business philosophy mirrors ours at Joico/Minardi...we were meant to be together!"
The Charles David Salon and Spa group recently opted to convert its professional portfolio to the Beth Minardi Signature Color, Joico Vero K-PAK Color, Minardi Luxury Color Collection and Joico hair care and styling collections. According to Dudley, all of the techniques covered in the training sessions offered the perfect blend of creativity and "wearability." "These were looks that our stylists began doing the very next day," he says, "because they were suitable for any age, any type of client and any location on the globe."
For Damien and Sue, the experience was equally rewarding. "Everyone was hungry for technical and creative ideas to incorporate into their everyday salon lives," Damien comments, "and the team spirit blew me away. So refreshing!" Adds Sue, "It's a huge salon and the stylists are very enthusiastic and eager. I'm already looking forward to my next visit with them."
In addition to the two days of intensive education, Joico hosted an after-class cocktail party, and treated students to meals and refreshments throughout the weekend. During the cocktail party, Sara presented the team with a special gift-an artistic glass sculpture symbolizing the new connection between the Joico and Charles David brands and the potential to take both to new levels of success.
"Usually it's like pulling teeth to get busy hairdressers to give up a weekend with their families to come to an educational event," says Dudley. "So it's a testament to the Joico team that we didn't lose a single person between day one and day two, and everybody stayed to the very end. Everything was so well-organized and well-run and the stylists left with so much great new information. And we are so honored that Sara and Angelia joined us. Now we are really looking forward to the Second Annual Symposium!"
