by Judy Johnston-ScroggsYou began your career as a professional musician, you were impressed by the “classic styles” of the well known performers you worked with. Who inspired you as you defined your own style?
I was very inspired by Frank Sinatra both his music and his incredible class and style.
You credit your parents for encouraging you to “explore” your creativity while growing up in Manhattan. Can you give us some examples of how they cultivated your creativity?
My parents always offered their encouragement and support and instilled strong values in me.
How would you describe what is referred to as your “classic notion of style and design?
Clean lines, simple and classic haircuts with a modern twist.
You recently developed Keratin Complex Hair Therapy TM by COPPOLA. Tell us about your new line.
We believe this product will revolutionize the beauty industry. It is truly a life changing experience for the client. Keratin Complex Hair Therapy is straightening and conditioning treatment for all hair types and can even be used on color-treated hair. There are no harmful chemicals or noxious odors — the results are truly amazing.
How did you become interested in products containing no harmful chemicals? Do you see this as the future in hair care?
This is absolutely the future of hair care. I felt that there was such a need for more naturally based products as consumer awareness is at its height regarding ingredients in hair products.
What new products are you currently working on?
We have a new line of Keratin “infusion” products which will include shampoos, conditions and finishing products. What role does music play in your life now? Everything that happens in life can be related to a song or piece of music. I am still inspired by music every day.
What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment to date?
My greatest accomplishment is maintaining a level of excellence in the ever changing industry.
What do you hope to accomplish in the next few years?
To make keratin Complex the gold standard in hair treatments and help woman change the way they feel about their hair.
If you could change anything about your career so far, what would it be?
Nothing.
What is one thing you would tell an individual just starting out in the business?
Never stop learning and always maintain your professional integrity.
Describe what you consider to be a “state of the art” salon.
A salon is just four walls, it´s the stylist´s working there and the services they provide that make it state of the art.
Who do you find to be an inspiration in your industry today?
Every day when I walk into my salon in Boca Raton, I am inspired by my team of talented stylists and their creativity.
What is one thing that people would be surprised to find out about you?
That I am a great cook!
What changes do you see happening in the industry in 2008 and beyond?
Hair technology has never been as advanced as it is today and I see that trend continuing with even more exciting advancements.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
People. I love the people.
