Making Beauty History
A lineup of all-star stylists gathered at New York City's Soho Academy on February 1st to gear up for "The Day of the Hairdresser" event, which will be April 15 to 16 at Atlantic City, N.J.'s ornate Taj Mahal hotel. Industry insiders and editors gathered for a private press preview of the upcoming event, which will unite some of the world's top stylists who will appear on one stage for the first time ever to make hair history. A collaborative event such as this, which enables superstar stylists to shine by working together and sharing their artistic talent and creative vision, has never been done before. For the event, each stylist will create an 8-minute stage presentation in front of a live audience of 5,000 attendees.
"It's the first time in our industry that everything's been put aside and it's giving us the great opportunity to share," says Matrix Artistic Director, Patrick McIvor, who will participate in the event. The talent lineup will also include Amit Abraham; Jo Blackwell; Robert Cromeans (Paul Mitchell); Joseph Dimaggio; Nicholas French (Matrix); Rafe Hardy (Sexy Hair); Tim Hartley (Vidal Sassoon); Gina Khan; Michael O'Rourke; Boyd Parris (Framesi); Leonel Rodriquez (Farouk); Rocky Vitelli; and Phillip Wilson. "In our industry, its all about hair and heart, which equal imagination, and this is what we have here," says Matrix Artistic Director Nicholas French.
The press preview, which was hosted by Emiliani Enterprises, gave the stylists an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions on the industry, their passion and this unique event. A casual, informal setting enabled the stylists to speak openly about the honor that they all felt on being invited to participate in The Day of the Hairdresser and how they will prepare for it. "I believe in courage and taking action in the face of fear." says Jo Blackwell. When asked where she finds inspiration Gina Khan answered, "My inspiration is right here in this room, we learn to grow from each other."
After the press preview, the stylists jetted off to Atlantic City to attend another press conference, which was held at the Taj Mahal. The artists were also granted an opportunity to tour the arena there, which will be the setting for this spectacular event. Tickets are available at www.emiliani.com.
