Star Seeking
Calling all cosmetology students and aspiring stars! P&G Salon Professional is scouting out the next generation of topnotch stylists via its third Student Stylist Competition. America's Beauty Show will be the scene for the upcoming contest, which will be held March 5, 2012 in Chicago.
The contest is open to all non-licensed students who are enrolled in a certified cosmetology school, as well as recent cosmetology school graduates. Entries will be judged on hairstyling as well as the model's overall look including makeup artistry, fashion styling and color technique (if applicable). February 7, 2012 is the deadline for entries.
Getting Started
First, the contestants will select a model and take a "before" shot. Then, using the Inspiration Guide for the category selected, they'll interpret one of the looks within their chosen category from Wella Professionals, Clairol Professional and Sebastian Professional. Finally, an "after" photo will be taken and submitted to P&G Salon Professional.
The Wella Professionals and Clairol Professional category's judging emphasis will focus on color, while cut and style will be the focus of Sebastian Professional's judging.
The talented finalists will compete live in Chicago where they will recreate their original photo submissions on stage in front of a prestigious panel of educators and judges, and a live audience. The lucky winner will be selected through a combined score of their panel rating and the crowd's participation.
First place winners will be awarded a check for $1,000, an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles to attend Wella Professionals North American Trend Vision Awards (NATVA), a one-year supply of PGSP product, and their choice of an in-school education course taught by a top PGSP educator.
"Energizing and encouraging students to reach their highest potential is our goal at P&G Salon Professional," says Fabio Sementilli, P&G Salon Professional Creative Director.
"It was so rewarding to win the P&G Salon Professional Student Competition in 2011," says Kathryn Hornick. "I had great mentors to help guide me through the toughest parts. The P&G Student Competition gave me the opportunity to network and meet a lot of top artists as well!"
Not just limited to topnotch students, P&G Salon Professional believes that behind every top student is a talented teacher. On this year's entry forms, students will have the chance to nominate their mentor or instructor for the first-ever Instructor of the Year award.
"Throughout our careers, there have been special folks who have truly believed in our ability and knew it was their duty to mentor and guide us to succeed, beyond themselves and positively change our lives," says Sementilli. "For this reason, P&G Salon Professional has added this very special award category to recognize the unsung instructors/mentors." The winning instructor will receive a trophy and an all expense paid trip to Los Angeles to attend NATVA.
