AURA FRIEDMAN DISHES ON RED CARPET HAIRCOLOR TRENDS
The red carpet was all about the blondes tonight, with an emphasis on more golden, buttery tones, some even were showing a bit of pastel traces. Overall, the shades were very shiny and warm for the light-haired ladies; Claire Danes and Gwyneth Paltrow are great examples.
CELEB STYLISTS’ TOP PICKS FOR SHOWSTOPPING STYLES
Several prominent styles stole the spotlight on the red carpet - 40s retro glam, deep side parts, and the always popular ponytail! See which looks inspired Wella Professionals experts Andy LeCompte and Ric Pipino, with tips on how to recreate the looks at home.
ANDY’S FAVORITE LOOK: NINA DOBREV
RECREATED BY ANDY LECOMPTE, WELLA PROFESSIONALS CELEBRITY STYLIST
Andy loved the simple glamour of Nina’s side-swept, voluminous hair which can be recreated by women everywhere using these tips:
1. Prep the hair with one pump of Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to damp hair
2. Blow dry hair straight then spritz hair with Wella Professionals Thermal Image to give the hair lasting sheen and then curl with 1 inch barrel curling iron in 2-3 inch sections
3. Use one pump of Wella Professionals Pearl Styler to coat hair and create a foundation for lasting style
4. Part the hair in a dramatic side part. Using a bobby pin, secure the smallest section of hair behind the ear and let the hair fall naturally over it to hide the pin
5. Work hair loosely through fingers with a pump Wella Professionals Pearl Styler and pin back majority of hair away from face, about three inches above the ear with a yoyette clip
6. Spray the hair all over with Wella Professionals Dynamic Fix to hold the style, and lightly aerate the curls with a wide tooth comb
7. Release the yoyette clip, leaving an old-Hollywood like curl that keeps the hair out of the face
RIC’S FAVORITE LOOK: PADMA LAKSHIMI
RECREATED BY RIC PIPINO, CELEBRITY STYLIST & OWNER OF PIPINO 57 - WELLA PROFESSIONALS FLAGSHIP SALON
Ric picked Padma’s piecy updo as his favorite because it was a cohesive overall look – her hair complemented her dress perfectly. Her hair looks naturally pinned up, as if she did it herself, which is a very sexy look. It would be great for date night!
To recreate this slightly unkempt, relaxed and sultry look:
1. Start with proper care – clean and condition hair with Wella Professionals Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner (for fine/normal or thick hair). Conditioner for colored hair
2. Prime hair with Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier while hair is wet, followed by Wella Professionals Extra Volume Mousse for maximum volume and fullness
3. Blow dry hair and lift the root for volume to set the stage for wave and movement
4. Once the hair is blown dry, spray Wella Professionals Thermal Image on dry hair to help smooth out frizz and protect hair from heat styling
5. Set the hair in big rollers or use an 1.5 inch curling iron (ceramic for fine/normal hair; titanium for thick hair)
6. Section hair, twirling it around a flat iron almost as you would with a curling iron to achieve a mixed curl results, some hair section strands are curlier and others are straighter
7. Tease the root at the front to create volume around the face and lift at the top of the head
8. Pull back the rest of the hair in a loose, natural piece-y chignon and pin it with a mixture of bobby pins and long T pins
9. Spray the finished look with Wella Professionals Dynamic Fix 45 Second Crafting Spray to set
