Grooming for Guys: NYFW Hair at Gilded Age
Jenny Balding, NYC Cutler Salon Stylist and Redken Grooming & Styling Expert, styled the men's hair at the Gilded Age FW14 show, which was presented during New York Fashion Week.
Stefan Miljanic, Gilded Age's designer was inspired by literary greats and monumental art movements, which later impacted the fashion industry.
He says, "Edgar Allan Poe started an exploration of the heart of darkness that kick-started the art movement of symbolism, which inspired 20th-century surrealism, and, in tu, altered the direction of literature, arts and fashion."
How did star stylist Balding interpret the hair look?
"It had a poetic feel-tailored, but with a natural disheveled finish. This look complimented the clothes as the collection is one of a poetic, tailored feel," says Balding.
Key looks included skinny pants paired with cool leather jackets and cardigan sweaters over a tee paired with a chic pair of pants.
This men's look works best when there are longer layers through the front area.
Here's how:
- Start by creating a natural side-part.
- On damp hair, use a blow dryer and use the fingers to maneuver the hair over to one side casually.
- Redken For Men dishevel is perfect for most hair types to create the finish for this look.
- Use small amounts and starting at the crown work your way forward to the front to create this slight disheveled, poetic look.
