Mistress of the Mix: DJ TINA T GETS THE PARTY STARTEDby From Sin City to....Summer Camp???
turntables pack dancefloors wherever bodies want to move, whipping up her signature chill aural cocktail of hip-hop, Top 40, 80s monster-mash, house, and electro.
As LA WEEKLY’S first-ever “Spin-Off” winner, she’s gone on to become a featured Red Bull DJ. Tina tours tirelessly to bring the beat to the most high-profile events in skate, surf, snow, fashion and technology. She also spins at hotspots including Tao, Pure, Rain, Studio 54, Prive, Cathouse, Lavo, Forty Deuce, V Bar, Krave, Tabu and a residency at Prive nightclub inside Planet Hollywood. Tina T’s beauty/hair regimen has always been a walk on the wild side, and now that she’s gone uber-blonde, she’s all about the toner! But she’s far from being a night-lifing narcissist: this summer, she’s launching www.campspinoff.com, a sleep-away summer camp for kids who want to learn to DJ. Tina says, “We will be mixing up the traditional outdoor camp activities with the country’s best instructors, speakers and guest DJ’s.” Now that’s what we call a rockin’ summer — S’mores, sunburns, and sing-alongs were just the beginning.
Here’s more from Tina:
HH: What is a beauty mistake you will never make again?
TT: Going to get a facial when I was hung over. Extractions are really painful when you’re dehydrated.
HH: What do you always, always have in your makeup bag?
TT: Bare Minerals powder. That’s my “face” every morning.
HH: What is your biggest beauty challenge?
TT: Keeping my skin hydrated when I am in Las Vegas. That dry desert air is no joke!
HH: describe your hair care regimen.
TT: After I went blonde, I had to completely change the products I use and how I take care of my hair. Using a toner to keep the blonde vibrant was something new to me. I mostly use a blow dryer and hair spray for styling. Now that I fried my hair, it has more texture than ever and does what I want it to. I love going to Suburbia Salon! They take great care of my hair and are always up for experimenting because I love switching up my hair!
HH: Who are your glamour icons — living or dead???
TT: Gwen Stefani is glam rock to me. I love her.
HH: When you’re enjoying downtime, do you completely “go native”?
TT: Oh yes! I spend most my downtime at home in sweats with no makeup and crazy bed hair.
HH: How do you stay energized and refreshed? TT: Showers, green tea, naps, coffee, fruit and lots of veggies.
HH: Have you ever done anything really drastic to your hair that you now regret?
TT: No regrets here. I think I learned from my sister’s mistake growing up. She got a bad perm as a kid and things were never the same, LOL!
